Fill a Purse for a Sister x The Aura House

Did you know that according to the Canadian Women’s Foundation, 3,491 women and their 2,724 children sleep in shelters in Canada on any given night? Many of them are fleeing unsafe home situations, leaving them without the basic comforts that a lot of us take for granted each day. Those staggering numbers are what prompted Angel Freedman to found the Fill a Purse For a Sister Campaign.

The Fill a Purse for a Sister Campaign aims to bring comfort, hope, and dignity to women and youth in crisis by providing them with a gift— purses filled with personal necessities. Susan B Anthony once said that every woman deserves a purse of her own. Angel Freedman agreed with that statement, and started the Fill a Purse for a Sister Campaign as a way to help provide women in crisis with a sense of autonomy, a feeling of support, and little comforts and luxuries that help women once again feel connected to their womanhood.

We’re so happy to be a part of this wonderful initiative. How to help is as simple as this:

“Give a purse that has been gently used and previously loved, or purchase a new purse. Including an encouraging note is always a thoughtful touch. Fill the purse with personal necessities, such as: menstrual hygiene products, tissues, shampoo, conditioner, reusable face masks, hand sanitizer, toothbrushes, floss, hair brushes, gloves, hats, scarves, lip balm, coffee shop gift cards, notepads, pens, whistles, and flashlights for example.”

It’s as simple as that. Your contribution will help you become a part of a rapidly growing initiative that supports women's shelters and crisis centres across the country.
